The Van Gendthallen: five historic industrial buildings in the heart of Amsterdam. Nationally listed buildings, but soon: the most impressive office space in the city.
The Van Gendthallen are located at one of the most historically rich places in Amsterdam, the Oostenburgereiland. This island was formed in the 17th century and has been at the heart of Amsterdam’s trade and industry for the past three hundred years. In collaboration with our partners we are restoring the original features of this national monument and making the space future-proof. Once opened, the Van Gendthallen will again become a place of innovation.
Enterprise, technology and art will all come together in the revitalized Van Gendthallen. The lofty ceilings, stunning light, public corridors and the industrial setting form the perfect décor for multidisciplinary art exhibitions. At the same time the units provide a home for entrepreneurs and start-ups as well as large tech-driven businesses, which develop sustainable solutions for social challenges.
From the renovation process to the selection of lessees, innovation and sustainability are central in the revitalized Van Gendthallen. The ambition? An energy-neutral building with 4200 m2 of solar panels, 6300 m2 of rooflights with transparent PV cells, a heat and power storage system and all kinds of energy-saving systems.
